How do I obtain a library card?

To obtain a library card you need to go to your nearest library branch, fill-out a library card application. You will also need to present evidence of residence in Washington Parish (picture ID or Driver’s License preferred).

If I am a resident from another Parish, can I get a library card with the Washington Parish Library?

For out of the Parish residents, there is a $10.00 fee required in order to obtain a library card with us.  These library cards are valid for three years.  Payment will be required at time of completing the application process.

Is there an age requirement to get a library card?

The minimum age to obtain a library card is 5 years of age. For anyone under 18 years of age a parent must be present in order to apply for a library card.

I lost my library card, can I get a new one?

Yes! You will need to request a library card replacement at your local library branch. There is a $1.00 surcharge for library card replacements.

How many books can be checked-out at one time and how long do I get to keep them?

The amount of books that can be checked out at any given time is 20 books per user per library card. This amount includes items that had been previously checked out but hasn’t been returned yet. With the exception of the “seven (7) day bestseller books”, book loans are granted up to 21 days. An extension of an extra 21 days can be granted upon request. Renewals are limited to one renewal per item.

How many DVD’s can be checked out at one time and how long do I get to keep them?

The number of DVD’s that can be checked out is three (3) per user per library card. DVD’s are loaned for a period of seven (7) days. Also, DVD’s only adult users are allowed to check out DVD’s. Juveniles are welcomed, under parental guidance to select audiovisual materials but the check out must be performed under their parents library card account.

Are there any fines for overdue items?

The Washington Parish Library no longer charges fines for overdue books, audiobooks, and DVDs.  For technology like laptops, hotspots, and other devices, the overdue fine is $10.00 per day.

I heard you have laptops for check out, what do I need to do to check out a laptop?

Laptops can checked out for a period of three (3) days. In order to check out a laptop, you must present your library card and a valid Louisiana Driver’s License.

Do you have computer and Internet access?

We have computers with Internet access at all four locations. Users must be familiar with “Computer Policy”.

Do you have Wireless Internet access?

Yes, for your convenience we have wireless routers at all four locations. The wireless is free to use but requires agreement with “Terms of Use”.

Are there meeting rooms available to the public?

Yes, we have two conference rooms available, one at the Franklinton Branch and one at the Bogalusa Branch. Use of the meeting rooms is limited to non-profit purposes. To book a meeting room please contact either library branch to verify availability at least 5 business days prior to the date and time needed. This is to ensure that the meeting room is available when you need it.
